達成目標/Course objectives
Course objectives
We will consider the structures of English. To putit in a different way, we will discuss what it would mean to say that we studyEnglish linguistically. Presenting concrete data, I will illustrate structuresof English sentences, the relationship between one construction and another, case studies of particular constructions, aspects of “meanings” in linguisticresearch (e.g., semantic “meanings” and pragmatic “intention”), and others. Thiswill lead to studying the hardware side of English as a particular language.Since we can make the most of its hardware knowledge when we actually useEnglish (i.e. its software side), this course will be useful for any students, whatever fields of study they will major in.
