講義概要/Course description
|
This course will focus on the roles of international organizations and related actors, including the United Nations, international financial institutions, and civil society groups, as they relate to major subjects of global concern, from collective security to health. In each of these themes, we will examine challenges, opportunities, and prospects facing them. The first part of the course will be lectures and discussions on the structure of the international system. The second half will consist of group presentations on key themes. This will be an interactive class, with a plenty of discussions, questions and answers.

Through the course, students will learn how the intergovernmental and other actors have responded to an array of complex issues, identifying synergies and gaps in their strategies and operations, and consider what can and needs to be done. Byt he end of the semester, students will be able to:

<!--[if !supportLists]-->l <!--[endif]-->Examine policies and practices of the UN, NGOs, and other actors

The instructor has worked with the UN Development Fund for Women (subsequently transformed into UN Women) and the UN Department of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs and Department of Peace Operations, as well as Ph.D. from the City University of New York and the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy. Throughout the course, real stories and practical lessons from her professional and academic experiences will be shared with students.
