講義概要/Course description
|
Creating Modernity: Darwin to the Digital Age is a seminar designed to appeal to a broad range of learners. Advanced students seeking new skills and knowledge will enjoy the challenges of finding and working with original texts. Enthusiastic beginners will appreciate the easy activities and supportive setting of each class. We will all learn something new about the 'modern' world we share as we step into the real and imagined worlds of Walt Disney, Madame Tussaud, Charlie Chaplin, H.G. Wells, and others. We will not focus only on western artists and culture makers, however. Creating Modernity: Darwin to the Digital Age also samples Latin American, Asian, and African culture makers - such as Frieda Kahlo and Chinua Achebe. The instructor has more than two decades of experience teaching English in universities, conversation schools, and in business. He is currently completing his doctorate on the community of artists working in Paris during the time of Napoleon.
