講義概要/Course description
The course follows the well-received Top Notch English course and is designed to allow students to (a) develop use of English to convey ideas to other people through conversation, extended speaking, and short writing and (b) teach students vocabulary and language routines necessary for using English in typical second-language-use situations.

Students should have significantly enhanced their abilities in both speaking and listening in conversation and in both written language exchange and general short writing.

授業方法/Method of instruction
As much as possible, classroom time will be devoted to using the materials studied from the textbook before the class session. Examples include creating conversations; role-playing;discussion; short informal presentations. Part of each class that follows written homework will be devoted to reviewing anonymous examples of exemplary homework and homework with common or serious errors.
Students should have read all of the relevant sections of the textbook before the class begins; most weeks, there will be listening and video-watching exercises for each unit. Listening and video work will be done outside the classroom and in most cases will be available for listening or viewing one week before the official assignment. In addition, there will be 6 on-line tests on the textbook material to be completed outside of class, generally during a one-month window. Please note that homework deadlines are generally two days before classes. How much work will vary according to person, but usually 30 to 60 minutes per week will be the minimum time necessary.

Tests: 20% (10% for each test)

休んだ場合は宿題を出しますので、〆切までに提出して下さい。〆切を過ぎて提出された宿題は宿題の点から-10%になります。遅れた分だけさらに点数が引かれます。(例えば、1週間過ぎて提出された場合は、-30%となります。)・Homework should be submitted by the deadline even if the student has been absent. Homework submitted after the deadline will be marked down 10% periodically. (For example, homework submitted one week late will be marked down by 30%.)
