講義概要/Course description
今や国際語の地位を確立した英語で、多様な背景をもつ読み手に、自分の考えや気持ちを的確に効果的に伝えてゆくことが、ますます重要性を帯びてきています。 しかしそのためには単語や文法の知識に加え、いくつかのスキルやストラテジーの習得が必要です。 Writing II では Writing I に引き続き、授業内外で、英語を実際に書く機会をできるだけ多く設けながら、アカデミックな場でのWritingスキルやストラテジーを学びます。
達成目標/Course objectives
主に次の4つのことを目標とします。

1)Writing I に引き続き、「パラグラフ・ライティング」と呼ばれる文章構成法を理解し、特に論理的な文章がプロセスを追って、書けるようになる。
2)Writer's Notebook を通じて、読み書きリテラシーを高め、自立した「書き手」として成長する。
3)意見や考えの発信、他者との意見交換の場を通して、英語を「コミュニケーションの手段として」使うことに慣れ親しむ。 
4)文法 語彙,文章構成法の知識を最大限に利用し、「意味が正しく伝わる英文」を書けるようにする。

Writing for a specific audience/personal and academic style
事前学習/Preparation Review your writer's notebook (about your entries during the summer).
事後学習/Reviewing Read the handout "Writing for a specific audience: personal and academic style" carefully.

授業計画/Class Writing strategies: organizating your ideas by writing a clear outline.
Logical division of ideas (1)
事前学習/Preparation Brainstorm your ideas for Assingment 1 in your writer's notebook.
事後学習/Reviewing Write an outline of Assingment 1 in your writer's notebook.  (What do you like to say most?  What is your topic sentence?)

事前学習/Preparation Write your rough draft of Assingment 1.
事後学習/Reviewing Revise your first draft.

事前学習/Preparation Edit your first draft. (Focus on your grammar and vocabulary.)
事後学習/Reviewing Pay attention to the paragraph format and punctuations and write your final copy of Assignment 1.

事前学習/Preparation Bring your writing work (your photo description writing with a message of peace and justice in the first semester) and its photo.  Revise and edit your writing piece to be shared with the class.
事後学習/Reviewing Read all the description works written by your peer writers and write your feedback to them.

事前学習/Preparation Read the handouts (about comparison and contrast) and do some exercises there.
Find a person who you can interview to complete this project.
事後学習/Reviewing Practice writing comparison and contrast sentences using useful phrases and expressions in your writer's notebook.

事前学習/Preparation Brainstorm your ideas of comparison and contrast paragraph writing in your writer's notebook.
Interview a person with educational background in a foreign country.
