|
This course is an introductory class to the sociology of gender and sexuality. We will examine various forms of social differentiation and social relations related to gender and sexuality, which are socially constructed in specific cultural and historical contexts.

達成目標/Course objectives
|
The purpose of the course is to get familiar with sociological discussions about gender and sexuality. Through the course, students shall acquire a perspective which enables them to identify problems related to difference, power, sexism and other dimensions of gender relations underlying social and cultural phenomenon.

履修条件(事前に履修しておくことが望ましい科目など)/Prerequisite
|
Knowledge of gender studies is not necessary, but interest in gender and related issues is desirable.

授業方法/Method of instruction
|
Students are required to do presentation for at least one topic. Depending on the class size, students may be divided into teams and asked to do presentation in team. In-class discussion shall be based on this presentation as well as the textbook. |

|
Regular attendance is a prerequisite for evaluation. 80 percent of the attendance is necessary, i.e. students who miss more than three sessions will risk failing the course. Students shall contribute to class discussions.
