講義概要/Course description
This course is for students who plan to write an academic thesis or research paper, and is designed to provide them with an understanding of research methods, personal experience in the investigation of a topic and the skills needed to create and complete a thesis/research paper.
Areas of focus include:
・ What is research and how does it differ from other modes of investigation
・ Primary and secondary sources, Evaluating sources
・ Choosing a topic, Searching for information
・ Arriving at a thesis, Testing a thesis, Documenting a thesis
・ The nature of objectivity in the study of culture and social issues
・ Acknowledging sources and avoiding plagiarism
・ Writing for a specific audience, Developing specific writing skills
達成目標/Course objectives
The objectives of this course are to provide resources, support, motivation and research skills for students to successfully complete an academic thesis, research paper and presentation.

授業方法/Method of instruction
This class will be conducted in a Hybrid/high-flex format. Please contact teacher for details and further information.

The first section will focus on building and applying previously learned research skills and methods. The format will be workshop and seminar style. Students are required to provide most of the material for each class. The teacher will comment and provide advice for narrowing topics, deciding a thesis and developing a viable research project.

The second section will be conducted as a thesis revision and completion workshop. Through peer review sessions, teachers guidance and specialized, needs based instruction, this section of the course will provide students with the time and resources needed to complete a well written and thoroughly researched academic thesis or research paper.
