講義概要/Course description
昨年度学んだ内容、社会と言語:社会における言語の役割について、さらに知識を深め、その中から特に自分が興味をもったテーマを選び、調査、研究します。
Last year, we will look at the relationship between language use and society, exploring main topics of sociolinguistics.  Topics such as multilingualism, dialects, gender, age, politeness, culture, law, and attitudes were covered. This year, we will expand our knowledge, while increasing it, and conduct a mini sociolinguistic research. 

達成目標/Course objectives
- Students will further become familiar with the main topics in the field of sociolinguistics.
- Students will be able to do some research and analysis on a particular sociolinguistics topic they chose last year.
- Through the activities in this seminar, students will learn how to present and write their ideas well in English.
履修条件(事前に履修しておくことが望ましい科目など)/Prerequisite
三年時に卒論のトピックを決めており、卒論を書き上げる覚悟がある人。

事前学習/Preparation Read the syllabus, read books/papers related to your research topics and write up the literature review section
事後学習/Reviewing Continue reading books/papers related to your research topic, and start collecting data.

Prepare a handout for the class, which states what your read and found from the literature review you did on the topic.

授業方法/Method of instruction
The main goal of this seminar is to write up the first draft of your thesis on sociolinguistics.
In class, students are expected to read previous research papers, analyze data, and present their research progress in terms of their research, using a handout or powerpoint.  
The foci on the 1st semester will be gaining knowledge through literature review, collecting data, and analyzing them. 
We also have individual meetings
