講義概要/Course description
The power of words on paper stands the long test of time. When you reflect back on how many writers have left their mark and legacy in this great world of ours, there are u sourca variety of topics from virtually every country on this planet.  For this coursework, we will explore the great writings of Japanese authors as well as writers from other countries to get a perspective on the diversity of opinions, thoughts and viewpoints on a range of topics.  In exploring and analyzing the words by so many past and contemporary writers, we can gain more insight into how we can put our own thoughts and feelings on paper, and create our own style of writing.
達成目標/Course objectives
By becoming more familiar with various writing styles, the students will be able to model after these writing samples during the beginning of this coursework.  In order to obtain a level of critical thinking skills on various newsworthy topics, students will also be allowed to express their independent opinions while citing the facts and background information to support their particular viewpoint.  After several weeks of comparing various writing styles from various authors, the students will become more centered in their own social and cultural values that will provide more insights from varying, shared perspectives that promote a higher level of consciousness through the written word.
履修条件(事前に履修しておくことが望ましい科目など)/Prerequisite
Please bring your own electronic dictionary and/or devices to class so that you can real time translation of the written word. The immediacy of what is spoken or written will enhance the learning process, and will provide a stronger foundation to write your thoughts on paper.

授業計画/Class Note to all students -- the first class will be done face-to-face in an assigned classroom.  Writing stems from our developing your own core values, and how this can be used by characters in a given story by an author.  The process of writing is not merely words on paper, but the connection we have in our minds from a creative, imaginative source.

授業計画/Class Writing the communicative format, and a thorough analysis of a sentence that builds into a paragraph.

授業計画/Class Let us look at cause and effect, and how we can see the sequence of events in a given story Arc. We will talk about Joseph Campbell and how the story arc is the mainstay for all story design from ancient fables to contemporary movie-making processes.

事後学習/Reviewing Assignment on expressing your analysis of a given story, and how the sequence of events follow a certain pattern from beginning, middle and the end.

授業計画/Class Comparison and Contrast is an important concept in most story design for writers. Let us look at a few samples in class.

授業計画/Class How our brain works and how the left and right side of the brain coordinate information that can be communicated to others through images as well as through the power of words. This powerful combination of how our brain functions at a wholistic level can enhance your writing level.

授業計画/Class The telling of a story through the narrative process with powerpoint slides, and in tracing the actions of a given story plot.  
事前学習/Preparation Working with the powerpoint slides, please work in teams to create your story-telling narrative. Further, please do research on the concept that holds the story together from a humanistic point of view.
事後学習/Reviewing Working with your team, please start coordinate your group presentation with the powerpoint slides provided for you.
