講義概要/Course description
This course is intended to help students develop their English communication skills by offering them opportunities
to participate in the following activities:
Listening skills: Listening to authentic material from the Internet.
Speaking skills: Discussing, debating, and otherwise responding orally to the material presented in class.
Reading skills: Reading written material from the Internet.
Writing skills: Note-taking; writing summaries and responses to material introduced in class.
Auxiliary skills: Acquiring basic media literacy skills (e.g., detecting biases, stereotypes, misinformation, etc.)
as they apply to the Internet; increasing awareness of and gaining more in-depth knowledge about global issues.
達成目標/Course objectives
The purpose of this course is to help students access the broadcast and print media in English, with a broad focus on
themes related to the students' majors, including news and current events. By the end of the class students should be
able to basically understand and respond to authentic English as it appears in the broadcast and print media.

成績評価方法/Evaluation
1 平常点 In-class Points 100% Students that make a great deal of effort researching subjects, making contributions, and joining discussions, as well as  giving well-researched, energetic and interesting 4 minute presentations will be awarded the highest grades. Students that show a lack of effort and perform uninteresting badly researched presentations at the end of the course will be given lower grades.
Any student who is absent twice without good reason cannot get the highest grade. Any student who is absent MORE than 3 times without an excellent reason automatically fails the class.
