講義概要/Course description
This seminar offers students the chance to gain insights into Japanese culture while at the same time offers them the opportunity to team-teach what they have learnt to the rest of the class. Students will experience teaching in a classroom environment firsthand. After investigating a range of modern Japanese cultural subjects, the focus in the course will be on the development of possible cultural lessons centered on teaching about them. In this context, we will explore lesson plans, the creation of possible teaching aids, and developing a syllabus. Students will also be provided the opportunity to make YouTube videos (if they so wish) as a method of teaching their chosen specialty.  There will be one field trip in this course where students will have the chance to discuss Japanese culture with foreign travelers. Note: It  is also  entirely permissible for a student who would rather explore traditional Japanese culture instead of contemporary Japanese culture to do so. Students may choose to cover very diverse topics from simple ones such as travel and cooking to more esitorical ones such as the concept of beauty and the gardens of Edo. It is entirely up to the individual student.

補足事項/Supplementary notesStudents will be encouraged to develop materials to communicate Japanese culture to English speaking foreigners. This will cover anything from travel to music to cooking to Japanese movies (whatever the students interests are).

We start with a quick recap of what teaching is. Here, new students will experience first-hand teaching basic lessons. In order to gain greater meta-cognitive skills of their own teaching abilities, the students from the previous term will monitor and offer valuable peer feedback to the new students.
After a field trip where students can interview foreigners in English about Japanese culture then they start to start to plan and teach lessons based on Japanese culture. (the possibility of using YouTube videos will be introduced here). A feedback session will be given at the end of these lessons. Here, any problems students might have had can be identified and rectified. External teaching examples maybe shown as a further source of guidance for students.
Offering the chance to teach a second traditional Japanese culture lesson, time will also be set aside for the students to explore ways to develop their chosen teaching themes into a viable syllabus complete with additional teaching materials andaids. Sufficient assistance will naturally be provided to help those be created and developed.
