In the second semester, we will read excerpts from early modern (Edo period) and modern works in translation. We will also learn skills for researching Japanese literature in English, and spend time reading English-language research about Japanese literature. Each student will decide a presentation topic for the semester, and use English-language research when writing a report about the topic. Presentations and discussions will be primarily in Japanese.
