講義概要/Course description
This course provides training in academic reading, listening, and summary writing. The format is based on the TOEFL iBT Integrated Writing Task. An overview of other types of summary, as seen in the IELTS Summary, is also included near the end of the course.
達成目標/Course objectives
The purpose of this course is to prepare students for attending academic lectures in English. By the end of the course students should be proficient in academic reading, listening, and summary writing. Each lesson will consist of a short reading text, followed by a short lecture on the same topic. Students will be required to write a summary of the main points of the lecture, stating how those points relate to the reading. In Lessons 12, 13, and 14 we will examine some other types of summary.
