講義概要/Course description
This course is intended to provide you with a basic understanding of global economic history since the 19th century. For this purpose, this course especially focuses on a history of Asian economies under “the Western impacts.” These impacts, such as colonization and industrialization, shaped the development pattern of Asian economies after the early 19th century, forming significant foundations of the region at present. This course will show how industrialization and colonial aspirations emerged in the West, how the Western impacts traveled to Asia, how Asian economies were transformed under these impacts, and how Asian economies responded to them to obtain political and economic independences.

You will be able to understand how global interactions between the West and Asia since the early 19th century shaped very basis of the current Asian economies.
