講義概要/Course description
International Relations is a subfield of political science which aims at systematically understanding of the causes and consequences of the relationships, ranging from conflict to cooperation, among nations. This introductory course covers four major subfields of International Relations - conflict and security, international organizations, international political economy, and foreign policy - based on theoretical and empirical research in the contemporary scholarship in international relations.

First, in the subfield of conflict, peace, and security, the course analyzes important issues including the causes of war and peace and how instruments for security such as alliance and deterrence is effective in international politics. Second, the subfield of international organizations explores why and how institutions for international cooperation are crafted and influential. Third, in the subfield of international political economy, the course will discuss politics of trading agreements and global environment, as well as the relationship between political regime and economic development. Lastly, the subfield of foreign policy will cover how domestic factors such as public opinion, legislature, and leadership affects foreign policy output.
