講義概要/Course description
英語のリスニングとスピーキング力を伸ばすことを目的とする。ゆっくりと明瞭に話された言葉を理解し、自分自身や自分の家族・学校・地域などの身の回りの事柄に関連した句や表現が把握できる力を養っていく。また、簡単な英語で意見や気持ちを伝達し、賛成や反対などの意見を表現し、類似点や相違点を表すことができるようになることを目指す。

The aim of this course is to extend students’ speaking and listening skills in English. While understanding words which are spoken slowly and clearly, students will develop their ability to use phrases and expressions related to the things around them, such as family, school life and home towns. In addition, this course aims to help students develop their spoken English so they may convey their opinions and feelings in simple English. In this way, for example, students should be able to express whether they are for or against a particular opinion, as well as, make statements of comparison and/or contrast.
達成目標/Course objectives

As instructors will conduct lessons using a selected textbook (among several possible choices of textbooks), they will explain during the first class meeting how they plan to incorporate selected textbook content with various level-appropriate tasks and exercises to create a highly active and “communicative” learning environment.

Classes will be input/output-focused with a strong emphasis on listening and speaking activities. Importance will also be placed on developing listening accuracy (through input) which will assist students to express their thoughts clearly (creating output) in response to given situations. In addition to the tests carried out at the end of a semester, students’ achievement levels will be tested on a regular basis.

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
・understand words which are spoken slowly and clearly.
・ask questions and or for clarification if they do not understand words or phrases which are spoken to them.
・communicate about topics related to them, such as: family, school life, daily routines and hometowns.
・convey their opinions and feelings in simple English.
・express a particular opinion as well as make statements of comparison and or contrast.
