講義概要/Course description
As instructors will conduct lessons using a selected textbook (chosen from an approved list of textbooks), they will explain during the first class how they plan to incorporate selected textbook content with various level-appropriate tasks and exercises to create a highly active and communicative learning environment.
Tasks will  include: preparing  presentation  outlines, developing  organized  presentations  with  clear structural elements (introduction, body and conclusion), practicing presentations, delivering presentations, and evaluating other students’ writing and presentations.
This course will focus on writing and speaking as communicative skills. Written work and presentations will be based on scientific topics related to the sudents’ field of study. Students will improve and expand their writing and speaking skills through interaction with their instructor and peers.
達成目標/Course objectives
The aims of this course are to have students develop writing and speaking skills on matters related to science, such as a general explanation of their field of study or its applications, a technical description of an object, such as a device or piece of equipment used in their study, and a process they encounter in their studies.
With regard to writing, the focus will be on constructing simple yet easy-to-follow descriptions created from a series of drafts and followed up by notecards.
Presentational techniques previously covered in English Core I-c will be reviewed and expanded upon so as to provide students with the skills necessary to produce  simple  oral  presentations  supported  by  visual  aids  ranging  from  posters  to PowerPoint™ slide presentations.
Upon successful completion of the class students will be able to:
- Write to give presentations related to scientific matters in simple and clear English.
- Employ language structures and vocabulary that support communication in which comparisons, descriptions, processes, and cause-and-effect relationships to which they were exposed.
- Find topics suitable for assignments and organize their ideas into an outline that serves as basis for their presentations.
-Assess both the writing and speech of classmates given the simple nature of the topics.
-Cite sources used and paraphrase rather than plagiarize.
