講義概要/Course description

指定された数冊の教科書の中から担当者が選択したテキストを基に授業を進めるため、初回授業に各担当者から授業の説明があるが、受講者全員が積極的に参加し、レベルにあった課題や活動を行うことによって成り立つ実践的でコミュニケーション中心の授業となる。本授業では言語インプット活動としてのリーディングとアウトプット活動としてのライティングを中心とした授業を行う。辞書を有効に活用しながら学術英語を理解し、基本的文法構造を活用してまとまりのある英文や報告文が書けるように実践的な練習を行う。また、学期末に実施する試験又はプロジェクトのほかにも定期的に到達度を評価する。
As instructors will conduct lessons using a selected textbook (chosen from an approved list of textbooks), they will explain during the first class how they plan to incorporate selected textbook content with various level-appropriate tasks and exercises to create a highly active and communicative learning environment.
In this course, students will read as an input activity and write as an output activity. They will be able to understand academic passages by making effective use of dictionaries and write a coherent essay employing simple sentences. There will be frequent assignments in addition to the final exam or project.

English Core I-bで習得した英語力を基にして、学術的な読解力と作文力を更に伸長させることを目的とする。基本的な英語で書かれた一定の長さの文章構成とその内容が把握でき、インターネットや参考文献の文章や図表から正確な情報を得ることができるようにする。更に、自分の意見を含めた物語文などをパラグラフ単位で書くことができるようにする。
This course aims to expand on skills students acquired in English Core I-b, with a focus on academic English. Students will be able to understand both paragraph structure and the content of passages of a certain length and retrieve information from the Internet, including references, charts, and diagrams. They also will be able to write narratives with their own personal opinions in paragraph form.

授業は基本的に英語による指導で行われる。
