講義概要/Course description
International economics is the interactions among countries. The interaction includes trade of goods and services, capital flows, and human capital. Generally, there are two major categories of international economics which are international trade and international finance. This course particularly focuses on the international trade part of international economics.
In this course, we will learn elementary international trade theory to think like trade economists. We will learn how countries gain from trade, trade costs such as tariffs, protectionist trade policy, and bilateral and regional trade agreements. We will also deal with related topics such as global value chains that is highly related to the current fragmented production network. 
達成目標/Course objectives
1. You will obtain knowledge of basic international trade theory.
2. You will be able to explain the effect of trade policies such as tariffs on the counterpart country in terms of resource allocation and economic welfare. 
3. You will be able to understand the mechanism and evolution of preferential trade agreements (PTAs) such as free trade agreements (FTAs) and regional trade agreements (RTAs).
4. You will be able to solve international trade questions including 1 to 3 above with appropriate analytical methods.
5. You will be familiarized with the latest international trade issues such as global value chains (GVCs) participation.

補足事項/Supplementary notesThe class is held in both lecture form and seminar form. The lecture on international trade theory and policy will incorporate graphs and real-time examples to help understand the contents. Students will be evaluated with general ideas of international trade theory and policy with a mid-term exam. At the end of the class, students are also expected to give a group or individual presentation of their interests.
