講義概要/Course description
In 1912, after the new convents were closed betweenJapan and Western countries which abolished extraterritoriality in Japan, JapanTourist Bureau was established to welcome foreign tourists. Its organmagazine was published from 1913 to 1936 in Japanese as well as in English. Notonly famous destinations like Kyoto, Nikko and Hakone were introduced, but alsothe new Capital Tokyo City and remote places like Hokkaido, Kyushu and Shikokuwere recommended there. In this semester, we would like to read about theseremote places which were not very easy to reach those days and Tokyo where youlive right now.
  
達成目標/Course objectives
First, to have an orientation not only inTokyo, but in whole Japan from the study of geograpny of Japanese main islandsand coasts. Secondly, to discover history. Tokyo (earlier, Edo) has anaccumulation of history at latest since the Edo Era because people from themost distant inland places moved in. Thirdly, to be able to talk aboutcontemporary global problems. Tokyo is faced with metropolitan phenomenons likeovercrowded conditions, which happen in reverse of many countryside places. Wewould like to know what is happening and talk of solution and future incomparison with your countries.

課題(試験やレポート等)に対するフィードバックの方法/Feedback methods for assignments (exams, reports, etc.)
課題は授業の進行に合わせて事前学習に組み込み、翌週に発表をさせて評価する。レポートはオンラインで提出させる。テストは14週目にすませ、最終週に結果について振り返る。
