講義概要/Course description
|
The most complex ability that any human being ever acquires is the (implicit) knowledge of a native language.
We will investigate what language is and this (implicit) knowledge we have acquired in this course.
The course will be organized around the main text, The Language Instinct. Although the book is written for a popular audience, it presents very basic and important information all linguists should know. Topics, such as Morphology, Syntax, Phonetics/Phonology, and Semantics, will be covered.

This course examines what the nature of language is, how the science of linguistics analyzes language data, and how language is acquired and interacts with human biology and psychology.

履修条件（事前に履修しておくことが望ましい科目など）/Prerequisite

A minimum of TOEIC 600 or higher in English proficiency (mainly Reading and Listening skills) is required. The texts and materials used in the course are written in English, and the videos shown during class, as well as the PowerPoint slides used in lectures, are also in English. Weekly assignments and exam questions will also be in English (though electronic dictionaries are allowed). It is likely that about 90% or more of the class will be conducted in English.
最低でもTOEIC600以上の英語力（主にReadingとListening skills)：授業のもととなるテキスト、資料は英語で書かれており、授業中見るビデオ、また講義に使用するパワーポイントも英語で書かれています。なお毎週出される課題や、試験問題も英語で出されます（ただし電子辞書の持ち込み可能）。おそらく授業の9割程度は英語になると思います。

Students wishing to enroll in the course must attend the first (on-demand) and second (face-to-face) classes. If you miss four classes or more, you will not be eligible for evaluation. You may enter the class if you are up to 30 minutes late, but two late arrivals will be considered as one absence. Furthermore, if you are late by more than 30 minutes without a valid reason, such as a late arrival certificate, the class will not be counted as attended for that day. If you are unable to attend a class, please email the professor in advance.
履修希望者は必ず初回の授業に参加してください。授業を4回以上欠席した場合は評価対象になりません。遅刻は３０分までは入室可能ですが、遅刻２回で一回の欠席とみなします。なお、遅延証明書など正当な理由なく３０分以上遅刻した場合は、その日の授業は出席としてカウントされません。
出席できない場合は事前に連絡してください。
