講義概要/Course description

This course will focus more clearly on different functions of oral English. Students will both practice and consider the differences of register; talking to friends or talking in a more formal, work-place or academic setting. In each different situation, different oral skills will be practiced, such as expressing personal beliefs, and exchanging view and opinions, or agreeing and disagreeing politely. Practice will take the form of chats between students or more formal presentations amongst other speech acts. Thus, this class will focus on improving students’ ability to communicate in spoken English on a variety of everyday topics, develop basic discussion skills as well as instruct students in effective ways to give presentations. The course may change based on student needs. This will be a face to face class which also uses Course Power

達成目標/Course objectives

Students will be encouraged to use more English with their peers, unmonitored by the teacher. Students will use language collaboratively, using English with each other to accomplish classroom tasks. Collaborative tasks may include discussion, team presentations, debate, exchanging views on a current issue, simple surveys, role play, or drama. Teacher feedback on oral output or student self-monitoring and self-reflection will help students achieve greater accuracy in their spoken English. Changes may be made in accordance with students' needs.
