講義概要/Course description
This is a fully-integrated English as a Second Language approach in developing your listening, reading, writing and most importantly, your speaking skills for presentations. Based on s interactive, task-based module of learning, there will be interactive opportunities for sharing and collaboration during each class session. Each lesson will build on the student skill levels gradually through theme-based lessons addressing both contemporary and historical events and stories.  These formats allow for integration and a growing sophistication for the work efforts for each student during the semester. 
達成目標/Course objectives
As part of the design of this coursework, the goals are for each student to develop his or her overall fluency in English and to raise the proficiency level of dedicated students who commit the process of learning in this way. By establishing the foundation of student literacy and critical thinking skills through the foundation of the basic language skills, these workable strategies for learning can foster and guide the students to the next level of success.

履修条件(事前に履修しておくことが望ましい科目など)/Prerequisite
Students are expected to bring their own electronic dictionary and/or devices that can help them isolate English vocabulary words into their own language.  The immediacy of transferring the newfound knowledge in English is vital in developing the proficiency level of each student in this class.

授業計画/Class First class will be held online (on-demand).    All other classes during the 15-week session will meet face-to-face as well. Please check coursepower for your assignments and learning material each week.  

First lecture will be based on IDENTITY, and WHAT WE ALL HAVE IN COMMON as people in any cultural.

FIRST LECTURE - AMERICAN CULTURAL HISTORY, and the Rise of diverse cultures. What is culture? 
All human beings possess culture as part of his/her own identity.  This includes language, beliefs, religion, values, norms as well as material objects or intangible memories that are passed down from one generation. Let us talk more about this today.

授業計画/Class American has many key figures in history that has changed the nation to become more independent from England or now known as the United Kingdom.  Let us learn more about these individuals today.

授業計画/Class The Civil War effects during 1861 - 1864 during the time when Abraham LIncoln became the President and declared the document, EMANCIPATION PROCLAMATION to free all African American Slaves from the work on the Southern Plantations.  11 states were against this social change, but states supported the ideals of equality and freedom in the Constitution. Let us talk more about this today.

授業計画/Class Famous African Americans who have changed America by his or her contributions to society. Let us talk about past historical contributions to American society as well as contemporary Africans Americans in sports, music, and literature.

Let us talk about the controversies around the U.S. elections and conspiracy theories. How can we separate facts, and falsehoods in the news and social media?

授業計画/Class The American Constitution and the 2nd Amendment rights, and what does this mean for young people in America?  The big issue and debate is gun control versus gun rights. Let us compare stories about these two viewpoints for discussion.
