講義概要/Course description
|
This course discusses the history of American politics and foreign policy with a focus on the latter mainly since the end of the Second World War, while clarifying the characteristics of the American-led liberal international order and how it evolved.
While explaining individual historical events, this course addresses the following five major questions as a whole. (1) What were the cooperation and conflict between the United States and other great powers?
(2) How did the United States intervene in small countries (especially in the Third World)?
(3) For what reasons and legitimacy did the United States use force against other countries?
(4) How did the United State try to expand freedom to the world, and whether those attempts were successful or not?
(5) How did the United States create, maintain, and destabilize the liberal international order?
