講義概要/Course description
In this class, students will practice communication in a variety of common situations in business contexts, using the English language as the medium of communication. They will work in pairs and groups to rehearse and interact in business situations. There will also be practice of written communication, such as résumés and email. Since the TOEIC is often used as an assessment of the ability to use English for business communication, there will be occasional practice geared toward that test, but this will only account for a small portion of the course (this is NOT primarily a TOEIC-preparation course).
達成目標/Course objectives
Students will improve their confidence and accuracy in spoken and written English communication in business contexts.
Students will gain awareness of cross-cultural difficulties in business contexts, and learn strategies for dealing with those difficulties.

メッセージ/Message
This class will be conducted entirely in English, and students will be expected to attempt to speak English for the entirety of the class period, with the exception of “language emergencies”. However, the difficulty level of the activities is not particularly high, so a very high starting proficiency in English is not necessary — only a willingness to give full effort to using English the whole time.

The class schedule is tentative and subject to changes based on the abilities and interests of the students, at the discretion of the instructor. Any changes will be communicated via CoursePower.
その他/Others
Since a large proportion of the evaluation for this course is based on active class participation, regular and punctual attendance will be essential. Students will be expected to attend every class, and any students missing more than 1/3 of the class periods will not receive credit for the course (note: this does NOT mean that merely attending 2/3 of the classes will guarantee credit; all other criteria must also be met). Latenesses to class will also affect class participation grades, and latenesses will convert to absences at a rate of 3x late = 1 absence.
