In this dynamic course, you'll learn a systematic approach to decision-making, blending the art and science of solving problems and making choices that drive personal and professional success. From understanding the psychology behind decision-making to evaluating problems, assessing potential solutions, harnessing critical thinking skills, and applying decision-making frameworks, this course equips you with the tools and strategies needed to navigate complex decisions with clarity and confidence. In pairs, students will choose a problem of interest and apply problem-solving and decision-making skills to a presentation of recommended solutions on the final day of class.

・Understand Decision Psychology:Explore the principles of decision science to gain insights into the cognitive processes and cognitive biases that influence decision-making, including concepts such as confirmation bias, anchoring, and prospect theory. Learn to recognize biases in your own thinking and in the decisions of others and apply appropriate techniques to mitigate the effects of those biases.

・Learn to Characterize Complex Problems: Develop an evidence-based approach to ensure you are solving the correct problem. Improve your ability to break down and complex problems into manageable components, enabling a more systematic approach to problem-solving and decision-making.
・Apply Decision-Making Frameworks: Practice using a variety of professional decision-making frameworks and consider how you can choose the best frameworks for a specific problem. Learn how to apply these frameworks individually and in combination to different decision contexts for improved decision outcomes.
・Practice Reflective Decision-Making: Cultivate the habit of reflective decision-making by critically evaluating past decisions, identifying areas for improvement, and implementing strategies to enhance your decision-making process over time.

Most decision-making frameworks include problem-solving steps. The WRAP framework described in this book focuses solely on the decision stage. When you have one or several potential solutions, how can you analyze that solution to make the most effective decision? The WRAP framework will be introduced in class. This book gives more context and is optional.
