講義概要/Course description
This course is designed to provide an overview of the theories and methodologies related to trade analyses. The first part of the course covers the theoretical foundation of international trade (and the second part deals with the empirical methods used for trade analysis and their application using several case studies if time allows). The underlying assumptions of the theory and the relevance of its empirical application to the global economy are covered in the course. Perusing the websites of the World Bank, World Trade Organization, UNCTAD, OECD, the Wall Street Journal, and the Economist is encouraged for staying abreast of the current trade environment.

1 Paul R. Krugman, Maurice Obstfeld, and Marc Melitz International Economics:Theory and Policy Pearson 2017 9781292214870 While students are not required to purchase textbooks, I recommend borrowing them from the library and using them for preparation and review. As the course material is standard, any textbook on international economics, including old editions of International Economics byKrugman et al., are suitable. 国際経済―理論と政策〈1〉国際貿易) P.R. クルグマン、M. オブズフェルド.Those who are comfortable with Japanese may want to refer to「国際経済学へのいざない」日本評論社 as the content is very similar to the course material.

メッセージ/Message

• Final Exam
There will be a cumulative final exam at the end of the semester.
Students may want to refer to exercise questions posted on the Course Power in order to have an idea about final exam questions. They are very similar.
Since students have sufficient time (i.e., more than a week) to take the exam online,
make-up exams will not be arranged in principle. They may be arranged only in special cases such as bereavement leave, but students are required to provide official documents, which proves that they were not able to take the exam.  Sick leave is not included in special cases, so I encourage students to take the exam in advance.

(The order of topics covered in the class may change based on students’ progress/background.->this does not apply this year)
