講義概要/Course description

Cool Japan
This course aims to outline and analyze the Cool Japan strategy from the Japanese government. Students will learn basic concepts related to Cool Japan at a global level, such as “soft power” or “kawaii (cute).” At the end of the semester, students will propose an improvement plan of how to promote Japan to the world in a final presentation and report.

- To understand the concepts and historical background of the Cool Japan strategy - To evaluate the Cool Japan strategy conducted by the Japanese government - To develop critical thinking skills from remembering, understanding, applying, analyzing, evaluating, to creating.

|
This course strongly encourages and welcomes open communication. Rather than a lecturer, the instructor will act as a facilitator in the class. Questions and discussion in the classroom will also be a central part of teaching. Many topics in the class will be explored through in-class discussions and activities related to assigned readings.
*We will have a small quiz at the end of every class (1 open-ended question). *Note that class contents may change during the semester.

1.Be attentive to the other speakers and ask questions of the presenting student. 2.I take class attendance seriously. • A student who attends less than 3/4 of scheduled classes will receive a failing grade. • Absence will be excused for special circumstances such as illness, family emergency upon written request.
