講義概要/Course description
Theme: Academic English proficiency in reading and writing

This course is designed as the next course, following Academic English I.

This course is one of the two integrated English courses instructed solely in English (the other is a Speaking & Listening course). Students will take both courses with the same native English instructor in a small class. Each class is 90 minutes in length and meets three times a week.

Instructors will emphasize developing productive skills, i.e. writing, language accuracy, vocabulary, and knowledge of collocations, while developing critical thinking skills. Through the exploration of different academic topics, the class will also include development of important strategies for improving writing skills, specifically academic writing. Students will be expected to participate actively and collaboratively, working in pairs and groups.

Tutoring: Periodically, the native English instructor will meet small groups of students outside of class times, in order to discuss progress and develop strategies for improvement, where needed. The sessions will be done on a sign-up basis.

IELTS and TOEIC:
⚫IELTS: If students fail to achieve their required IELTS exam score in the first semester,
they will need to arrange and pay for further IELTS exams independently.
⚫TOEIC: Students need to take the TOEIC exam in December in order to verify progress.

達成目標/Course objectives
Course objectives are (1) to further develop academic English proficiency in reading and writing, (2) to prepare students for study abroad programs, and (3) to improve IELTS/TOEIC exam scores.

その他/Others
Students must attend an average of three-quarters (3/4 = 75%) of the classes to be eligible to receive credit. Students who are up to 15 minutes late are noted as late. Those who are late on two occasions are considered to have missed one class. Students who are more than 15 minutes late are considered to have been absent from that class.
