講義概要/Course description
|
This course is designed for students to learn Japanese traditional culture, its aesthetics and essence in English through lectures. The course will be taught by Japanese cultural specialists such as artists, actors, performers and experts who are well known internationally. Students will have unique opportunities to listen to their expertise, experience, thoughts and the background as well as to watch performances first hand.

補足事項/Supplementary notesExperts on respective topics will lecture/perform and will receive questions at the end the class. After each class, students will write a short written response on the topic.
Note that this course will be taught face-to-face except the first and final weeks which will be conducted online using on-demand materials. In addition, other classes may also be taught online depending on the availability of guest lecturers.
This course will be taught and managed by a visiting lecturer (Atsuko Suzuki) along with the lecturer in charge.

This course and Cool Japan are complementary courses. If students take both courses, you will gain a fuller understanding of Japanese culture. Please note that it is highly possible that the schedule of topics of these two courses will change/exchange due to the availability of guest speakers.
This course is offered for both international and Japanese students. For international students, the course presents numerous facets of the Japanese traditional culture. For Japanese students, the courses will prepare you better for your upcoming study abroad opportunities.
