講義概要/Course description
This course focuses on developing students' communicative competence in the global language of English. It will emphasize both the productive and receptive components of English communication. As the classes will be conducted in a CALL classroom, emphasis will be placed on the development of key English skills using computers, including e-learning. A special importance will be placed on pair work, group work, and task-based activities for the purpose of developing problem-solving and critical thinking skills.

達成目標/Course objectives
The main objective of the course is to improve students' English communication skills in reading and writing. As such, in order to become active and fluent language users, students will learn how to quickly read, comprehend, and discuss English academic texts on topics related to their field of Social Informatics.  Another key objective is to deepen students' understanding of English grammar for the purpose of improving their productive communication skills. Vocabulary learning is also emphasized, as it is an essential part of improving one's communicative competence in a foreign language. The writing component of the course will help students to communicate their ideas and opinions with the development of effective topic sentences, paragraphs, and essays.
